Weed Potential
The shrub is disbursed by birds eating the fruit and spreads quickly naturalising the forest understory by tolerating low light conditions. It forms a dense canopy and grows in thickets reducing the growth and diversity of native seedlings.
Control methodsinclude physical removal of the plant and its roots or the removal of foliage and painting the stumps with herbicide. Seedlings can be sprayed with glyphosate and mature plants may be burnt off during the fruiting period.
