'Brilliant' Kurile Cherry
var.kurilensis
This small deciduous tree grows to 3 m (10 ft) tall by 2 m (6 ft) wide with dark green foliage that turns orange red to red during autumn and forms a rounded crown. During early spring it produces pale pink single flowers that are followed by persistent red sepals.
It prefers a semi-shaded to full sun open position and grows in most well-drained fertile moist soils including chalky, clay and sandy loams and is pH adaptable.
'Hanagasa' syn.'Matsumae-hanagasa'
This small deciduous tree grows to 6 m (20ft) tall with spreading branches forming a graceful rounded habit. The new coppery foliage turns green as it matures and the heavy clusters of long stem pale-pink, double flowers appear during early spring. It is an excellent specimen plant a lawn area or planted in Japanese gardens for colour.
'Matsumae Fuki' syn.'Chocolate Ice'
This small deciduous tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall by 2 m (6 ft) wide in 10 years, forming a vase habit with deep coppery-brown young leaves and produces single pinkish white-saucer shaped flowers in clusters during spring.
Young trees are upright spreading as a mature and the floral display is excellent. It is planted along borders in small or Japanese gardens or used in open court yards as a specimen.
