Variations
var. mandschurica
This early flowering form has a sparsely serrated dark green leaves that are downy on the underside and produces fragrant white flowers up to 38 mm (1½ in) wide, followed by bright red slightly larger fruit. It is very susceptible to powdery mildew and scab.

var.gracilis
This small tree grows to 6 m (20 ft) tall with smaller leaves on slightly pendulous branches and produces white flowers up to 35 mm (1? in) wide. The fruit is yellowish-gold coloured and is very resistant to scab.

var. himalaica
This tree is similar to the species and produces pink buds that open to white flowers and are followed by yellow fruit. It is slightly susceptible to scab and the plant is commonly used as a rootstock for apple cultivars due to its cold tolerance and disease resistance.

Cultivars
'Columnaris' Columnar Siberian Crabapple
This upright tree grows to 11m (35ft) tall by 3m (10ft) wide with a narrow crown forming a columnar habit. It produces pink buds that open to white fragrant flowers and are followed by persistent bright red or yellow fruit up to 12 mm (½in) diameter during autumn. It is susceptible to fireblight but resistant to scab and grows in USD zones 3-8.

'Jackii'
This small tree grows to 12 m (40 ft) tall and with a right trunk and spreading branches that forms a rounded crown. It has deep green leaves and produces a solitary pure white flowers up to 40 mm (1? in) in diameter followed by purplish to red fruit up to 12 mm (½ in) diameter. It is resistant to scab and Japanese beetle but susceptible to fireblight and powdery mildew. It grows in USDA zones 3-7

'Walters'
This small tree grows to 7 m (25 ft) forming a vase habit with a glossy dark green foliage. It produces pure white flowers which are followed by small yellow and red fruit.

'Ballerina'
This is a small tree grows to 5 m (15 ft) tall with a rounded crown of a dark green foliage and produces solitary cupped, showy white flowers that are followed by bright yellow persistent fruit, up to 12 mm (½ in) diameter.
