This slow growing rhizomatous perennial has dark green foliage and forms a clump habit. From mid to late spring it produces white to pale pink, formal double flowers that appeared above the foliage.

It prefers a shaded to part shaded protected position and grows in moist well-drained moist sandy to light clay loam with a pH of 4 to 7.5. This perennial is used in front border planting or can be grown in containers and there are several variants of this plant under this name.
