Cultivars
There are many cultivars and it is advisable to contact your local nursery for available varieties.
'Audrey'
This deciduous shrub has multiple stems with a spreading branches with mid-green foliage that form a compact rounded habit up to 3 m (10 ft) tall and wide. During summer it produces large upright panicles of light pink fragrant narrow tube shaped flowers that are long-lasting.
This slow-growing shrub is frost and a drought tolerant and will grow in most well-drained fertile soils including chalk-based, requiring little maintenance and once established.
'Hiawatha'
This shrub has upright greyish stems and branches to 3 m (10ft) tall by 2 m (6ft) wide, forming a compact rounded habit. It has flat dark green ovate leaves and during mid to late spring it produces trusses of pink flowers that are pale pink on the inside. It is fully hardy and grows on most well drained moist fertile soils in an open sunny position.
'Miss Canada'
The parents are Syringa x prestoniae'Hiawatha' and Syringa josiflexa.
This deciduous shrub grows to 3.5 m (12 ft) tall and wide with multiple stems and spreading branches that have medium to dark ovate leaves of 150 mm (6 in) long, forming a compact rounded habit.
From late spring to early summer it produces panicles of bright pink single flowers that have a mild scent. It prefers a humus rich well-drained moist soil that is tending alkaline with a pH 6-7.5.
