Sub-species
subsp. cilicica
This tree varies from the species by having glabrous leaflets with a longer petiole and an acuminate apex. There are slight variations of this form that grow in Turkey.

This small deciduous tree has an upright trunk with spreading branches to 15 m (45 ft) tall forming a broadly rounded crown with a dark green leaves that turns reddish during autumn. During late spring to early summer it produces masses of fragrant creamy white flowers in a panicle. It prefers an open sunny position and grows best on drier calcareous and sandy loamy soils and is ph adaptable.

This small deciduous tree grows slowly to 5 m (15 ft) tall by 3 m (10ft) wide with a smooth greyish standard trunk and spreading branches that forming compact rounded crown. It has bluish tinge dark green foliage that turns reddish during autumn and in spring it produces masses of creamy white flowers.

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most well-drained moderately fertile moist soils and is ph adaptable. This tree is suitable for small gardens as a specimen or used in commercial sites requiring little care once established.
