It has blue-green foliage that is red-bronze when young and it produces rosy pink urn-shaped flowers from winter to early spring. It is planted in small or coastal gardens preferring a well-drained moderately fertile sandy soil and is drought and heat tolerant.

This small shrub grows to 1 m (3 ft) tall by 2 m (6 ft) wide with spreading dark red stems that form a compact sprawling habit. It has blue green foliage that is brilliant orange-red when young and produces white urn-shaped flowers during early spring.
It prefers an open sunny position than grows in well-drained moderately fertile sandy to light clay soils with a pH 5-7. It is planted in parks and gardens as a ground cover or as a spillover above retaining walls and is ideal for attracting birds.
