This tree differs from the species by having capsules that lack prominent rips and are up to 54 mm (2? in) long by 38 mm (1½ in)wide. The identifying features include large scruffy flower buds and fruit and a large adult leaves that are discolorous. It grows in restricted region in the far Top End of the Northern Territory near the Coburg peninsula.
