Sub-species
subsp. G. refracta
This variable shrub has leaves with different numbers of lobes (on the same plant) and varying flower colour within a single population. The typical form is widespread throughout Northern Territory and northern Western Australia and has closely oppressed hairs on the branches, leaves and conflorescence that are accompanied by floral racks that are up to 2 mm (2/16 in) long.

The flowering period finishes earlier then the subvelutinous form.
The subvelutinous form appears in different habitats and differs in having spreading tomentose on the branches and the broader lobed leaves.

subsp. G. glandulifera
This shrub produces leaves branches and conflorescence that have glandular hairs and the floral bracts are up to 3 mm (? in) long.
