Weed Potential
As a weedMother of Millions is wide spread in Australia along the eastern coast from southern New South Wales to throughout Queensland and extending across to the Western Australia coast.
It grows in a variety of native habitats including urban bushland and coastal dunes or in drier woodlands or rainforests. It is also prolific in disturbed or degraded land or neglected residential landscapes.
This plant prefers an open sunny to exposed position, and produces plantlets that fall and readily take root. The seeds are very viable and are dispersed by water, wind and garden waste. It infests areas and prevents regeneration of plants.
Control methodsinclude physically digging out small infestations taking care not to disperse seeds or plantlets the certain to remove all the roots from the soil.
Fruiting stems and foliage with plantlets should be cut and bagged where possible then all plant material should be destroyed. The spraying of the plant with a non-selective herbicide has little effect.
