Varieties
There are two varieties one with crinkled leaves commonly found in Australian gardens and the Italian straight leaf form which is preferred in European gardens.
This form can grow to 1m (3ft) tall with a spreading habit and has a stronger flavour. The leaves are commonly used fresh as a garnish or dried mixed in stews or soups for flavouring.
This herb is also used for medicinal for its diuretic and carminative properties, but in the past it is said to treat many ailments including malaria or urinary disorders.
