Cultivars
'Ernest Wilson'
This compact tree to 8m (25ft) has upright branches with pale-green leaves with a cup-shaped base and turns orange during autumn. It is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain.
'George Forrest'
This vigorous tree is upright with spreading branches that form an open habit. It has dark green leaves with reddish petioles and this tree is commonly cultivated in parks and gardens.
'Madeline Spitta'
The narrow erect tree grows to 12m (40ft) tall with ascending branches that form a columnar habit. It has dark green leaves that turn orange during autumn and the tree is planted along borders.
'Serpentine'
This small tree is upright with a rounded crown and attractive striped bark. It has dark green leaves up to 100mm (4in) long and purple shoots. It is an excellent specimen tree for a medium size garden.
