Variegated Caribbean Agave, Narrow Century Plant
This small to medium size perennial succulent in native to tropical Costa Rica and Mexico and forms a dense rosette of foliage with a short trunk up to 900mm (32 in) tall by 1.2m (4 ft) wide.
It has stiff leathery blue-green lanceolate leaves that are 600mm (24 in) long by 100mm (4 in) wide with white marginal bands and the upper margin is armed with small brownish spines. The apex is acuminate and is tipped with a pungent conical spine.
In 10 years or more it produces a 2.5m (5ft) tall scape with a series of terminal panicles that are up to 50mm (2in) wide during spring, after which the plant dies off. Propagation is normally carried out from suckers or from plantlets that appear on the inflorescence.
