This tree is simular to the species but is more tolerant to cold conditions and produces pink to rose-purple flowers within 15 years.
'Borde Hill'is a cultivar of this subsp and produces vivid pink flowers.

This upright tree has spreading branches, similar to the species forming a dense rounded crown and produces pure white flowers during early spring.
'Caerhays Suprise'
Magnolia campbellii x Magnolia liliflora
This deciduous tree can attain a height of 10 to 20 m (30-60ft) with a grayish trunk and upright spreading tan coloured branches that form a dense crown.
The large dark green glabrous leaves are up to 30 mm long and the fragrant purplish cup shape flowers are up to 255 mm (10in) wide with rose coloured stamens appearing during spring. It prefers a well drained organic rich, sandy loam with a pH of 5-7 in a semi-shaded to full sun, protected position.

This vigorous upright tree forms a narrow habit to 13.7 m (45ft) tall and produces large pink cup-shaped flowers with purple undertones during spring.
Under cultivation the tree is normally smaller with a rounded crown it is planted in parks and gardens as a feature. The cross was originally made in Cornwall, England in 1964.
