'Leonard and Messel'
This upright much branched shrub grows to 8m (25ft) tall, 6m (20ft) wide forming a compact rounded crown with dark green leaves that are coppery coloured when young. It produces fragrant pink flower buds that open with 12 petals that are pale lilac pink, then fade to pale pink and have a pale purple central line on its tepals. It prefers a wind protected sunny position and grows on most well drained moist soils, including chalky base

This compact vigorous shrub to small tree forms large goblet-like white, flushed with pink flowers that open to star-shape during spring.
