var. hyacinthina
This plant has ovate to cordate shaped grey-green leaves that have a quilted upper surface with a narrow white margin. The underside is blue-grey and during summer it produces an arching scape with violet flowers.


Cultivars
'Albomarginata'
This plant produces dull dark green leaves with variable size creamy margins that become white with age.

'Albopicta'
This plant produces narrow cordate shaped creamy-yellow leaves to 250mm (10in) long that have a thin dark green fading to light green margin.

'Aureomarginata'
This plant produces ovate to cordate shaped leathery deep green leaves to 250mm (10in) long. The upper surface has obvious veins with an irregular yellow margin.

'Francee'
This plant produces heart-shaped mid green leaves that have a white margin. It is planted as an under story plant in warm climates preferring well drained moist fertile soils and in summer produces beautiful pink funnel-shaped flowers. It has a medium water requirement once established. (Scale: 2-drops from 3)

'Gloriosa'
This plant has elliptical shaped glossy dark green leaves that are cupped with a narrow white margin. During summer a scape up to 1m (3ft) produces lavender-blue flowers.

'June'
This plant grows to 500mm (20in) tall by 1m (3ft) wide and produces blue-green and golden leaves that are lance-shaped maturing to heart-shape. From mid to late summer grey funnel-shaped flowers appear above the foliage on along scape and the plant prefers a semi shaded to sunny position.
In shade fewer flowers are produced and the plant is frost and drought tender, preferring moist well drained fertile soils. It has a medium water requirement once established. (Scale: 2-drops from 3)

'Medio-picta'
This form has heart-shaped dark glossy green, puckered leaves with white margins. It forms loose clumps and is suitable for small moist gardens.
