var. carota Wild Carrot
As a weed this biennial herb grows to 1 m (3 ft) tall and producer`s dark green leaves that are divided into narrow, linear segments and appear on the stem and in basal rosettes.
The tiny creamy white cup shaped flowers are arranged in a flattish umbel up to 250 mm (9µ in) wide and is held above the foliage appearing from spring to summer. This plant naturalises in pasture land or wasteland and appears in disturbed soils.
Control
Remove and bag seed heads and dispose off site and plants may be slashed during the flowering period to reduce seed production.
The wild form of carrot has been used in herbal remedies for hundreds of years with the seeds dispelling flatulence and the root supplying vitamin A for night eyesight.

This form of the species is cultivated as an annual for is a fleshy orange edible root and is commonly grown in vegetable gardens. The dark green divided leaves are triangular in shape.
