Weed Potential
As a weedPanic Veldgrass is aggressive fast growing species that can flower and seed with in 10 weeks through out the year with a 100% germination rate over 12 months.
It grows in full sun to semi shade tolerating most soils. It is commonly found in disturbed soils forming a cover that inhibits the regrowth of smaller indigenous flora. It is dispersed in garden waste or by rhizome and seed that is dispersed by birds, water or wind.
Control methodsinclude physically digging the shallow rhizomes and bagging seed heads and removing both off site. Follow up control should be implemented with in 6 weeks. The plant may also be sprayed with a non-selective herbicide that will require a follow up over a 2-year period as the seeds only remain viable for 12 months.
