Weed Potential
As a weedRibwort is wide spread throughout eastern Australia growing in a variety of native habitats including grasslands, roadsides and in domestic lawns where mown regularly the leaves lay flat. It is also commonly found in disturbed or degraded land tolerating semi shade to full sun.

The plant produces a very long tap and in spring flower heads appear on a long scape above the foliage. The dark brown to black seeds may remain dormant germinating during the warmer months and preferring a moist soil. The seeds are dispersed by water, soil, wind or garden waste and dense infestations inhibit the regrowth of low growing indigenous flora.

Control methodsinclude physically digging out the tap root and foliage. Seed heads should be carefully collected and bagged. Plants may also be sprayed with a non-selective herbicide from early spring to summer with follow up spraying over 2 to 4 years.
