Cultivars
'Albostriata'
This cultivar has an upright to arching habit with whitish striped stems (culms) up to 30mm in diameter. The lanced-shaped dark green leaves are profuse. It requires ample room to grow and is used in screening or as a specimen.
'Alphonse Karr'
This bamboo cultivar has an erect upright habit and forms a non-invasive clump with thin walled yellow stems (culms) with green stripes. The leaves are lanced-shaped and dark green and it is an excellent specimen plant that tolerates temperatures to -9°C. Once established it has a high water requirement once established. (Scale: 3-drops from 3), responding to mulch and an occasional deep watering during dry periods, particularly for young plants.
'Fernleaf Stripestem'
This cultivar has a narrow upright growth with a clumping habit with yellow striped stems (culms) and small lanced-shaped dark green leaves. This non-invasive plant is suitable for screening in a narrow bed. Once established it has a medium water requirement, (Scale: 2-drops from 3) and responds to mulching with an occasional deep watering during dry periods.
'Japanese Hedge'
This non-invasive clumping bamboo grows to a maximum height of 6m (20ft) tall but responds to a regular prune. It prefers a semi shaded to full sun position and tolerates most well drained soils. It is commonly used as a screening plant but is also used in containers.
'Riviereorum'
This dwarf cultivar has an upright habit and forms a non-invasive clump. The dark green paddle-shape leaves arranged tightly on the twigs. This plant is suitable as a container plant or may be pruned for hedges.
'Willowy'
This cultivar has an upright and spreading habit with stems (culms) that bow outwards and nod as subsequent foliage forms. New culm sheaths are whitish and the large linear leaves are bright green. It is an excellent non-invasive screen plant.
'Silverstripe'
This large cultivar has an upright to arching habit with stems (culms) up to 40mm in diameter. The lanced-shaped leaves are dark green with fine white stripes. It requires ample room to grow and is used in screening or as a specimen.
