The cultivars of Prunus x domestica (European Plum) are divided into four main groups that is based on fruit colour, size and use.
1) Reine Claudeor Greengage
These trees produce rounded green or golden plums that are commonly used for caning or can be eaten fresh.
2) Yellow egg
These trees produce large yellow oval plums that are normally used for caning.
3)Lombard
These trees produce large oval, red or pink plums that are eaten fresh and are widely used in western Europe.
4) Prunes
These trees produce oval dark blue or purple freestone fruit and a commonly used for drying.

Cultivars
'Angelina'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces dark purple medium size freestone plums with sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in mid-season and it requires a short chill period during winter making it more suitable for warmer regions and is possibly pollinated by ' Green Gage' or 'President'
'Brooks'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and produces large sweet dark purple oval shaped plums with sweet yellow flesh. It can be eaten fresh or use the caning and drying. It produces fruit after two to three years from planting and grows in USDA zone 4.
'Coe's Golden Drop'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces greenish yellow medium size European plums with sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in late-season and it requires a long chill period during winter making it more suitable for cool temperate regions and is possibly pollinated by ' Green Gage' or 'President'
'Damson'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces dark reddish purple medium size European plums with tartness flavour flesh. The fruit matures in mid to late-season and it requires a medium chill period during winter making it more suitable for temperate regions and is self pollinated. It is used in jams or for cooking.
'Green Gage'
This small to medium-sized tree from France produces yellowish green freestone fruit with juicy amber flesh and is eaten fresh, canned or making preserves. It grows in USDA zone 4.
'Hollywood'
This Californian variety has a showy floral display and produces large round freestone reddish purple fruit that has a juicy rich flavour and is eaten fresh.
'Italian'
This tree produces dark purple freestone fruit that is eaten fresh or canned and can be dried.
'Luisa' PBR
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces reddish purple medium size heart-shaped plums with sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in the early-season and it requires a short chill period during winter making it more suitable for warmer regions and is self pollinated.
'Mariposa'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces dark purple large size blood plums with sweet juicy dark red flesh. The fruit matures in mid-season and it requires a medium chill period during winter making it more suitable for temperate to cool temperate regions and is possibly pollinated by 'Santa Rosa''
'President'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces deep purple large size oval shaped European plums with sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in mid to late-season and it requires a medium chill period during winter making it more suitable for temperate regions and is possibly pollinated by ' Angelina' or 'Green Gage'
'Peach Plum'
This tree produces golden yellow round plums with sweet juicy white flesh and is ideal for eating fresh or can be canned.
'Primetime'PBR
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces red to dark blue large size plums with juicy yellow to pinkish-red flesh. 'Santa Rosa'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces purplish-crimson large size plums with slightly sweet with some tartness near the stone pink tinged yellow flesh. The fruit matures in mid-season and it requires a short chill period during winter making it more suitable for warmer regions and is possibly pollinated by ' Mariposa' or is self pollinated. It can be planted in small to medium size gardens and is eaten fresh or used in jams.
'Satsuma'
This Japanese variety produces greenish maroon fruit with sweet purplish red flesh and is commonly used in jam.
'Sugar'
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces red to dark red small oval shaped plums with very sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in mid to late season and it requires a medium chill period during winter making it more suitable for warm temperate to temperate regions and is partially self pollinating or possibly pollinated by 'Damson'.
'Zaizaz'
Pizazz (R)
This small tree grows to 4 m (12 ft) tall and wide and produces dark blue to purple black medium size plums with sweet juicy yellow flesh. The fruit matures in early-season and it requires a short chill period during winter making it more suitable for warmer regions and is possibly pollinated by 'Mariposa'.
