'Heaven Scent' Magnolia liliiflora x Magnolia x veitchii
This small deciduous tree grows to 4 m (12ft) tall with spreading branches forming a dense rounded crown.
During spring it from produces abundant fragrant, narrow cup-shape flowers that are pale pink flushed with a deep pink at the base and white on the inside. It prefers a wind protected sunny position and is ideal along garden borders as a summer screen.
'Jane' Little Girl Hybrid
This vigorous a shrub has upright branching that forms a rounded crown with leathery dark green foliage. During late spring prior to the new foliage it produces slender tulip-shaped flowers of that are reddish purple on the outside and white on the inside.
It prefers an open sunny to semi shaded position, and can grow to 5 m (15ft) tall by 3 m (10ft) wide, producing flowers in its third year. It is suitable for parks and gardens as a specimen tolerating most well drained, fertile moist soil types and can grow and USDA zones 5-9.
'Nigra'
This tree grows to 4 m (12ft) tall and wide with a short trunk and many erect branches that form a form a compact rounded crown. It has alternate ovate oblong leaves up to 150 mm (6 in) long by 60 mm (2? in) wide and are dark green tending brown during autumn. The pubescent blackish buds are falcate and the narrow campanulate flowers are up to 120 mm (4µ in) long by 40 mm (1? in) wide and consists of nine a waxy tepals that are dark purple to red on the outside.
They appeared solitary, at the end of the branches and flower from late winter to mid-spring. The tree is moderately vigorous and long lived and grows in well drained organic rich soils that are neutral tending acidic. It is planted in small gardens as a deciduous shade tree or used as a specimen for colour contrast.
'Ricki' Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' x Magnolia stellata
This slow-growing Little Girl Hybrid is upright with spreading branches forming a rounded crown and produces deep, purple flowers that are whitish on the inside. They appear before the dark green foliage with a spectacular display in spring and sporadically throughout summer.
'Royal Crown' Magnolia liliiflorax Magnolia veitchii
This upright vigorous shrub to small tree grows to 7 m (22ft) tall and wide forming a vase habit with the spreading branches. It has glossy green ovate leaves and during spring before the leaves it produces deep purplish pink buds that open to large deep pink flowers with 12 tepals that are white on the inside.
This tree grows well in rich moist fertile soils in an open sunny to partly shaded position. Shallow roots respond to moist mulch and it is planted along garden borders or as a lawn specimen.
