Variations
B. spinulosa var. neoanglica
This plant was found in sclerophyll forests and is a small shrub to 2m (6ft) tall. The leaves are pointed and have an entire margin when the leaves are mature they have a silver underside.
This is the distinguishing feature and this plant is not salt tolerant. It has a low water requirement once established.

B. spinulosa var. collina
This plant varies in that the leaves are flat, linear to obovate with recurved margins and occurs from Nambour in Queensland to Sydney New South Wales. It is found in woodlands and heath on a variety of well drained soil types. It has a low water requirement once established.

Cultivars
'Lemon Glow'

This shrub is simular to the species and produces bottlebrush-like flowers with yellow styles. It is grown for colour contrast in borders and has a low water requirement once established.

'Birthday Candles'
This is a dwarf shrub grows to 350mm (14in) tall and has a spreading habit. It produces dense bottlebrush-like flowers and is an excellent ground cover for a small garden or rockery. It grows in most well drained acidic soils in a full sun to semi-shaded position. It is mildly frost tolerant and drought tolerant and has a low water requirement once established.
