This perennial and produces scarlet flowers at the top of the flower head becoming orange yellow to yellow towards the base. The flowers are held above the foliage on a leafless scape up to 1.7 m (5 ft) tall.

This perennial produces scarlet and orange flowers in a large flower head that is held above the foliage on a leafless scape up to 1.8 m (5˝ ft) tall.
