This small tree grows to 8m (25ft) tall with spreading branches that form a compact crown. The pink fringed flowers appear from spring to summer followed by attractive blue berries in autumn.

It prefers a well drained moderately fertile soil and is drought and light frost tolerant once established. It is used in parks and gardens as a specimen plant or planted along watercourses. It has a low water requirement once established.
