It has sweet tasting juicy bright red flesh and the fruit is resistant to anthracnose and Fusarium wilt.

'Royal Crimson Sweet'
This early maturing variety produces a mid-green rounded shape with dark green stripes that is up to 250 mm (9ľ in) long by 300 mm (1 ft) wide and can weigh up to 12 kg. It has very sweet crisp bright red flesh and the melon has a dark green stripes. It is resistant to Anthracnose.

'Royal Majesty' F1
This annual produces an oblong fruit that has pale green with dark wide stripes and has bright red flesh with a small brown seeds. It can grow up to 280 mm (11 in) long by 61 mm (2? in) wide and weigh over 13 kg. It requires a garden bed that is 2 m (6ft) long by 1.2 m (4 ft) wide.

Potential weed
As a weed in Australia Citrullus lanatus(Bitter melon, Wild melon) germinate during springtime and has a deep tap root. It produces a small green fruit that is mottled white and has a bitter taste. It commonly occurs along roadsides on the coast and inland. It has a low palatability to livestock and is potentially toxic to all grazing animals and is not commonly eaten except when it is ripe. The seeds are dispersed by birds, animals or by wind and this annual plant can be prostrate or climbing.

Control methods include physically removal of the plant before it fruits or burning the plant off. Goats may also be used as they have low risk toxicity to the plant. It has been declared a noxious weed in Victoria and Western Australia.
