Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in a well-drained media. The seeds require the standard peeling treatment prior to sowing.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during spring or autumn and they should be placed in a dryer less humid protected environment. Avoid misting benches.
This plant has been successfully grafted on to Grevillea robustaroot stock.
Note:
This shrub is not commonly cultivated and has had limited success in the humid eastern states.
Botanic information
Leaf: The ascending sessile grey green narrow-linear leaves are up to 60 mm (2? in) long by 2 mm wide with an acute to obtuse apex that has a black recurved point. The upper surface becomes glabrous and the underside is enclosed by the entire revolution margins forming 2-silky grooves with the prominent mid-vein.
Flower: The erect tubulate flowers have a pedestal up to 6 mm (¥ in)long and the ovoid red to pink 4-parted perianth segments are up to 12 mm (½ in) long by 3 mm (? in) wide witha exserted pistil to 25 mm (1 in) long with a lateral pollen presenter. There are 1-5 flowers arranged in an erect sessile axillary villous raceme that is accompanied by tiny bracts. The flowers appear from late winter to late spring and are pollinated by birds.
Fruit: The erect ellipsoidal follicle is up to 16 mm (? in) long by 5 mm (¥ in) wide with a glaucous wrinkled pericarp and contains smooth linear-ellipsoidal seeds to 9 mm (? in) long by 2 mm wide with recurved margins and a waxy border with wing up to 1.5 mm long. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively with some difficulty.
