Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in flats during spring and slightly cover and keep moist. Maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F) and prick out when large enough to handle and pot-up into tubes.
Botanic information
Leaf: The reduced scale leaves are arranged in whorls of 7 to 9 yellowish teeth around at the joints on the dark green branchlets (cladodes) with a furrows and are up to 200 mm (7µ in) long.
Flower: The reddish-brown male flower are arranged in a catkin-like spike that is up to 28 mm (1? in) long.The reddish female flower has no perianth segments and consists of 2-fused carpels. The shrub is dioecious or monoecious and the flowers appear from late winter to spring.
Fruit: The long-cylindrical cone-like capsule is up to 40 mm (1? in) long by 17 mm (? in) in diameter. The dark shinny seeds (samara) up to 10 mm (? in) long and have a long viability period. They are spread by birds or dispersed by gravity and the seeds germinate after fire or disturbance.
