Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in containers and keep moist. Germination is erratic and seedlings should be placed in a very well drained media. Cuttings taken during the growing period and kept moist (no mist).
Grafted varieties are available and are suitable for heavier soils and are Phytophthora resistant.
Botanic information
Leaf: The small sessile dark green linear to oblong leaves are rounded in cross section (terete) and have an obtuse-mucronate apex. The leaves are arranged opposite and are crowded along the reddish branchlets.
Flower: The bright yellow cyathiform flowers up to 12 mm (½ in) wide and have 5-sepals that are greatly divided into linear fringe lobes and the 5- petals are divided into 7-10 pointed lobes. It contains 10-stamens that alternate with 10-petal-like staminodes in a continuous ring. The flowers arranged in a dense cluster that appear above the foliage during spring.
Fruit: The tiny nut is enclosed in the floral tube and contains numerous fine seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
