Propagation
Sow fresh seed in a well-drained media during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 27º C. (61º to 81º F). Germination rate is high but seedlings are subject to damping off. To reduce loss at leaf litter from the parent plant to the mix to promote beneficial anti-fungal microorganisms.

Botanic information
Leaf: The large leathery textured glossy dark green pinnate leaves are up to 1 m (3 ft) long with a petiole up to 60 mm (2? in) long and have 4-33 variable leaflets or lobes that are up to 250 mm (10 in) long by 60 mm (2? in)wide. The apex is acute to spinose and the margins have prickly serrations. The new growth is covered in a fine rusty-coloured pubescence and both surfaces have prominent venation.

Flower: The small purplish-red stellate flowers have 4-twisted recurved perianth segments with an exserted pistil and the pedestal is shot. There are numerous flowers arranged densely in a pendent raceme that is up to 500 mm (20 in) long and appear from the branchlets in a cluster from a late winter to early spring.

Fruit: The bright red to yellow fleshy indehiscent ovoid drupe is up to 50 mm in diameter and contains one large black seed. it matures from spring to summer at the seeds are edible.
