Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed.
Stratify fresh seeds for 2 months during winter and sow in pots, then place in a cold frame to germinate.
Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green thick leathery textured, oblong to oblanceolate leaves are up to 100 mm (4 in) long with an obtuse apex and a short petiole. The upper surface is glabrous and the underside is covered in rich brown indumentum.
Flower: The brown hairy buds fall to reveal the fragrant creamy-white cyathiform flowers that are up to 50 mm (2 in) wide and have 6-fleshy obovate petals with a central boss of yellowish stamens. They appear singularly at the end of the branches from mid to late spring.
Fruit: The follicle is composed aggregated carpels and has a cone-like appearance and ripens during summer. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
