Botanic information
Leaf: The thick fleshy blue-green broad lanceolate leaves are deeply channelled with an acute apex and an entire pinkish margin. The base clasps the stem and the spent foliage persists at the base. This species has no spines.
Flower: The orange to coral-red or yellow tubulate flowers are swollen at the base and are yellow tipped with a slightly exserted style. They are arranged in a terminal raceme that is held above the foliage in a corymbose panicle up to 1 m (3 ft) tall and appear from winter to early spring.
Fruit: The small loculicidal capsule contains numerous small seeds that are dispersed by wind. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
