Propagation
Surface sow fresh seeds in flats with a very well-drained media and lightly cover with clean sand. Keep moist but not wet at 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F) or until germination occurs normally in one month but can take up to a year. Prick out when large enough to handle into pots and grow on for 12 months.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings of the current season's growth in autumn or spring and apply rooting hormone and placed in a well drained media on a misty bench with bottom heat at a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).

Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile grey green oblanceolate leaves are covered in a white bloom (glaucous) and have a stiff leathery texture. the apex is obtuse and the whitish midrib is prominent.

Flower: The individual tubulate flowers have sepals splitting into four, allowing the curved style to emerge. The sessile flower head is enclosed in an involucre of imbricate yellowish-green leaf-like bracts that form a open cone-shape that is up to 120mm (4µ in) wide. They appear from autumn to winter or sporadically throughout the year.

Fruit: The fruit is a bearded nut and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively. The seed heads are persisted on the plant in the seeds are released 9-12 months after flowering.
