Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in a well-drained media. The seeds require the standard peeling treatment prior to sowing.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and placed in a dryer less humid protected environment with bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green thin leathery textured pinnately lobed leaves are oblong to ovate in outline with 5 to 9 pointed oblong lobes. The upper surface has a prominent mid-rib and veins and the underside is a pale green. The new growth is bronze coloured and is a feature of plant.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a short pedestal and the oblong red to dark pink perianth segments are up to 4 mm (? in) long witha protruding red pistil up to 20 mm (µ in) long. The flowers are arranged in an a one-sided terminal or axillary raceme that is up to 80mm (3? in) long and appear from winter to late spring.
Fruit: The ovoid (teardrop-shape) follicle is up to 20 mm (µ in) wide by 8 mm (? in) wide with a slightly pubescent pericarp. The flat seeds are up to 15 mm (? in) long with a short wing. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
