Propagation
Sow fresh seed in situ during spring at a depth of 30 mm () in rows. Keep the soil moist and germination occurs within two weeks.
Botanic information
Leaf: The flat mid-green linear leaves are up to 150 mm (6 in) long by 15 mm (? in) wide and the basal sheath surrounds the stem completely. The apex is acute to acuminate and the ligule and auricles are smooth.
Flower: The erect spike-like panicle is up to 100 mm (4in) long and has 3-sessile spikelets each with 2-divergent glumes at the base and 1-floret. The straight, erect awns are up to 150 mm (6 in) long. They appear above the foliage from the early to mid summer.
Fruit: The small smooth fruit is enclosed in the lemma and palea and the seeds are viable.
