Propagation
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period and insert in a well drained sandy medium and placed in a protected humid position (misting). Apply bottom heat to encourage fast root development.
Space the plants 900 mm (3 ft) apart when planting out.
Botanic information
Leaf: The slightly pubescent dark green elliptical to broad-ovate leaves are up to 200mm (7µ in) long by 45 mm (1µ in) wide with an acute-acuminate apex and the petiole is up to 30 mm (1? in) long. The upper surface is prominently veined and the leaf texture is thin.
Flower: The rich blue expanding tubulate to cyathiform flowers have 5-spreading lobes with exserted stamens and are arranged in a terminal or axillary spike that is up to 40 mm (1? in) long and is accompanied by green and white veined ovate-elliptical bracts up to 15 mm (? in) long by 8 mm (? in ) wide that persist after the flowers have fallen.
Fruit: The small capsules are not always produced and if they appear the tiny seeds may not grow true to form. This plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
