Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during autumn or spring in situ or in containers. Plant out that the 600 mm (2ft) spacing.
Softwood cuttings taken during early summer and placed in a protected environment until roots appear.
Botanic information
Leaf: The thick textured leaves are ovate to oblong and are deeply 3-lobed with scalloped margins. The upper surface is grey green and the underside is pale green and is covered in stellate pubescence.
Flower: The regular bisexual cyathiform flowers have 5-sepals and 5-notched flat petals with a central column of orange stamens that surround the pistol. The flowers are accompanied by 3-bracts and the colour varies from red to orange and lavender. The ovary is superior and they are arranged in an axillary cluster that appears from spring to autumn.
Fruit: The spherical dehiscent capsule splits into segments releasing 1-3 tiny pubescent kidney shaped seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
