Botanic information
Leaf: The narrow lanceolate leaves are glaucous and strongly keeled on the underside. They are arranged at the base in groups of 2-5 and wither when the flowers appear.
Flower: The tubulate to campanulate flowers have 6-lobes in two 2-petal-like whorls and are lavender-pink to violet. The pedestal is deep purplish pink and the flowers arranged in a dense terminal umbel appearing high above the foliage on scape that is up to 750 mm (30 in) tall and appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The almost sessile 3-angled ovoid loculicidal capsule contains numerous sharp angled black seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
