Botanic information
Leaf: The longer linear leaves are glaucous and strongly keeled on the underside and arranged at the base in groups of 3-4 and withering when the flowers appear.

Flower: The tubular flowers have 6-bluish-purple petal-like expanding lobes that are up to 10 mm (? in) long and has 3-central erect yellow stamens. The pedestal is short and 6-15 flowers are arranged in a terminal umbel that is held up to 1 m (3 ft) above ground level on a slender leafless scape from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The almost sessile 3-angled ovoid loculicidal capsule contains numerous sharp angled black seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
