Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn or spring and place in a cold frame to germinate. The seedlings may be variable
Division of the rhizome during early spring or late autumn.
Note:
All parts of the plant if ingested will cause stomach upset and contact with the leaves may cause skin irritation, wear gloves when handling.
Botanic information
Leaf: The 2-ternate basal pinnate leaves are up to 200 mm (7µ in) wide with a long petiole and are deeply dissected with a numerous oblong segments that are toothed at the apex. The upper surface is mid-green and the underside is glaucous.
Flower: The bisexual campanulate flowers have a flattened corolla with 2-deciduous pointed sepals and 4-petals. The lanceolate outer two are spreading and pouched at the base and the oblanceolate inner two are attached at the tips.
The flower colour is rose pink in bud and opens pink then fades to white from late spring to early summer. The flowers have a short pedestal and 2-30 are arranged in a pendant branched raceme that is held above the foliage on a slender reddish scape.
Fruit: The ovate capsule is dehiscent from the apex and contains several oblong smooth to rough black seeds that are up to 2 mm long. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
