Propagation
Sowed fresh seeds in containers and maintain a temperature of 13º C (55º F) to 16ºC (61ºF) and the seeds germinate readily.
Division of offsets during the dormant period.
Corms should be planted during autumn at a depth of 127mm (5 in) and should only be lifted only when crowded.
Culture
This perennial requires moisture during winter with less in spring and prefers they dry dormant period. The soil should never be waterlogged as the corms rot easily and where the temperature falls below -3.8ºC (25ºF) a heavy mulch should be applied during autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glabrous linear leaves are crescent shape in cross-section with an acuminate apex and are arranged in groups of 3-5. The leaves are short lived normally dying off before the flowers are produced.
Flower: The narrow campanulate to funnelform bisexual flowers have 6-lobes that are arranged in 2-petal-like whorls and 3-linear white wavy staminodes that are adjacent to, and longer than the stamens. The flowers are variable in colour from white to lavender and occasionally pink and up to 12 are arranged in a large umbel. They are held erect on a slender scape that is up to 220 mm (8 in) long and appear from early to mid summer.
Fruit: The small loculicidal sessile ovoid capsule contains numerous small black seeds that are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
