Propagation
Stratify seeds for three months and maintain a temperature of 5º C (41º F) for 3-months prior to sowing in a prepared bed and keep moist.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken in during autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green to blue-green pinnate leaves have 5-thin textured lanceolate leaflets up to 35mm (1?in) long with 10-18 spiny teeth along the margins. The underside is greyish-white with prominent veins.
Flower: The cyathiform flowers have 9-sepals in 3-whorls of three and 6-petals in whorls of two with 6-stamens. There are 3-8 flowers arranged in a terminal raceme that is up to 65 mm (2½in)long with deciduous and basal bracts and appear from early to mid-spring.
Fruit: The small spherical berry is a yellowish maturing to red with a short pedestal and appear in dense pendant clusters. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
