Sow fresh seed during spring in flats and pick out one large enough to handle or sow directly in situ.
Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile leaves are linear to narrow-lanceolate up to 6 mm (¥ in) wide with an acuminate apex.
Care should be taken as the leaves are poisonous.
Flower: The salverform flowers have a long pedestal with a greenish calyx tube and longer calyx teeth that extend past the corolla. The corolla has 5-spreading obovate notched petals that are magenta-purple and are marked with blackish dotted lines from the white eye. They appear solitary or in a cyme from early to late summer.
Fruit: The small dehiscent sessile capsule has 5-teeth and contains numerous tiny black seeds that are very viable and a plant may become a weed. It is advisable to remove seed heads before dispersal of the plant.
