Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a open frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during the growing period and place in a well drained media. Keep moist and warm until roots appear.
Botanic information
Leaf: The light green pubescent trifoliate leaves have a spathulate to narrow lanceolate leaflets or the leaves are simple. In colder regions the leaves are herbaceous and the plant is covered in long sharp spines.
Flower: The violet blue papillionate flowers are up to 20 mm (µ in) long and have a 5-toothed inflated calyx and the wind and keel petals are united to the stamen tube and the standard petals have white marks. There are 2-4 flowers arranged in a cluster and the flowers appear on mass from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The narrow greenish pod contains several viable hard coated seeds but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
