Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring to early summer.
Division of the clump in spring or autumn.

Botanic information
Leaf: The larger dark green basal leaves are obovate with an acuminate apex and are up to 200mm (8in) long. The ovate to obovate-lanceolate stem leaves have both surfaces covered in soft pubescence and have a short petiole or are sessile.

Flower: This plant is dioecious and the reddish-purple male and female salverform flowers have an inflated pubescent calyx with triangular teeth and the five 2-lobed obovate petals. The flowers appear during daylight in an open cyme above the foliage in summer. The male has10 veins on the calyx and 10 stamens. The female has 20 veins on the calyx and up to 5 styles.

Fruit: The small dehiscent ovoid capsule opens at the apex with 10-recurved teeth and contains numerous reniform seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant can be reproduced vegetatively.
