Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 10º to 13º C. (50º to 55º F)
Division of the clump during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate leaves have 5-9 elliptical to oblong or narrow obovate leaflets that are up to 200mm (8 in) long and range from 28 mm (1? in) to 127 mm ( 5 in) wide. Each leaflet has an acuminate apex and a crinkly upper surface that is tinged in bronze when young and the margins are doubly serrated. The petiole is up to 325 mm (13 in) long and during autumn the leaves turn bronze before falling and at a glance they appear to be palmate.
Flower: The small apetalous flowers reddish on the outside and white inside with 5-subovate sepals that form a urn-shape and contained 10-stamens. They are arranged densely in a terminal panicle that is held above the foliage on a slender reddish scape and appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The tiny purplish capsule is dehiscent and contains numerous tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
