Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in a prepared bed or stratify seeds in a moist sandy soil, then place in a shaded position. Seedlings should be transplanted the following year.

Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during summer.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are deltoid to ovate up to 60 mm (2? in)wide with a rounded base and a long acuminate apex. The petiole is up to 25 mm (1 in) long and the shiny upper surface is glabrous and the underside is pubescent on the veins.

Flower: The slender pendulous male catkins appear during autumn and open in early spring with the new leaves. The pendulous cylindrical greenish female catkins are up to 40mm (1? in) long and disintegrate with the ripe fruit.

Fruit: The pendulous catkin is up to 40mm (1½in) long with broader angular scales that are pubescent on the margins and has a long stalk. The tiny nut is narrower than the broad wing.The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
