Propagation
Sow fresh seeds in containers during autumn and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer or semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green broad-ovate to sub-orbicular leaves have an obtuse apex and a petiole up to 12 mm (½ in) long. The upper surface is pubescent to glabrous and the underside has stellate pubescencealong the veins. During autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling.
Flower: The apetalous flowers are arranged in a dense cluster up to 50mm (2in) wide with 5-7 sepals on a short peduncle and have 15-24 yellow stamens. They are accompanied by 4-6 white petal-like bracts that are up to 25 mm (1 in) long and appear during spring.
Fruit: The clustered 2-beaked capsules contain numerous ellipsoid shiny brown seeds that are up to 6 mm long. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
