Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in an open frame to germinate.
Take soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots in summer.
Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a site as the tree has vigorous roots that can lift concrete and block drains.
Botanic information
Leaf: The variable dark green leaves are ovate to elliptical or oblong with an acute apex and have undulating serrated margins with 7-12 blunt teeth. The petiole is up to 3mm (? in) longand the leaves turn orange brown during autumn before falling. They are up to 60 mm (2? in) wide and have prominent pinnate veins that are pubescent on the underside.
Flower: The inconspicuous greenish male or hermaphrodite flowers appear singularly or in a small cluster in the leaf axil with the new foliage during spring.
Fruit: The small spherical drupe is a greenish and contains numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
