Propagation
Separate seeds from pulp and sown in autumn in a moist medium and maintain a temperature of 5º C (41º F) for 3-months. Stored seed may require stratification prior to sowing.

Softwood cuttings of non-flowering shoots are taken from spring to autumn and place on a misting bench until roots appear with in 6 to 8 weeks. Avoid excessive moisture for both cuttings and seeds.

Note:
Cuttings of deciduous species should be taken during early winter and cuttings of evergreen species are taken from spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The sub-sessile leaves are oblanceolate to oblong-obovate up to 12 mm (½ in )wide. The margin is entire or has 2-4 spiny teeth and the apex is obtuse.

The upper surface is light green to grey green and the underside is a greyish white. During autumn falling leaves are tinted red before falling.

Flower: The yellow nodding cyathiform flowers have 6-petal-like obovate sepals and 6-smaller petals arranged in alternating whorls of threeand contains 6-stamens.

There are 10-25 flowers with pedestals up to 12 mm (½ in)long and are arranged in a pendant raceme that is up to 60 mm (2? in) long, and appears from mid-spring to early summer.

Fruit: The small ovoid to sub-globose berry is a blackish with a fleshy texture and is covered in a grey-white powdery secretion (pruinose). The 3-4mm (? in) long seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to avoid natural hybrids.
